The Sony KDL-52V5100 is designed with a glossy black frame around the screen and horizontal speaker bar with a matte-black finish below the display. The cluster of keys at the top of the remote can command other gear that’s compatible with the HDMI-CEC control-over-HDMI scheme, but the remote can’t control other devices via infrared.

The Sony KDL-52V5100 has no antiblurring effects without dejudder. It offers three global adjustable picture modes and the fourth one called Custom, that’s independent per input. The three color temperature presets and full white balance controls are helpful to customize the grayscale. Some other settings such as gamma and a Game Mode to disable video processing, along with dubious extras like Live Color, Clear White and Advanced Contrast Enhancer.

The KDL-V5100 offers four aspect ratio selections, such as Full Pixel that correctly scales 1080i and 1080p sources to fit the screen. This KDL lacks extras picture-in-picture, but it has the handy product support screen. The Eco menu has an On/Off/Auto switch for the backlight, as well as a room lighting sensor control. The Off option is made for people who want the TV audio without a picture, and used it to reduce power draw to about 30 watts.

Sony is placed three of the four HDMI inputs on the side panel. Non-HDMI jacks in the back side /include two component-video and one RF for antenna or cable. The side panel boasts a PC input (1,920×1,080 resolution), a USB port for photos and music and an AV input with S- and composite-video.

The Sony KDL-52V5100 produces good picture quality, deep black levels, and accurate color in bright areas. It has a solid dejudder processing in Standard mode, numerous picture controls, plenty of connectivity with four HDMI, two component-video and one PC input.

Minus :

Dark areas tinged bluish. We must engage dejudder to enable antiblur. Standard pedestrian design. Less uniform screen.
