The Sony Ericsson K850i measures is 1.9 in x 0.7 in x 4 in (WxDxH) and 4.2 oz weight. It is designed with a standard candy bar design, sleek black hue, and blue or green highlights. The 2.25 inch (320×240 pixels) screen offers a bright 262,144 colors.

There are a volume rocker, a camera shutter and a camera power control placed on the left side. The volume rocker also can be used as a zoom control when the phone is in camera mode. The camera lens is placed on the rear face next to the flash. It has a bright flash and a sliding lens cover. There’s a second camera lens just above the display that’s used for video calls only. The charger port/headset jack is placed on the bottom of the phone. It sets on top of a cover for the SIM card and memory card slots.

Some options for the 5 megapixel resolution are four resolutions and two quality settings. Other editing options are an image stabilizer, an autofocus, macro and infinite modes, four white-balance settings, an adjustable ISO, spot metering, four color effects, a self-timer, an autofocus light, a panoramic mode, 15 fun frames, and an autorotate feature.

Sony Ericsson’s BestPic feature is able to take nine pictures of a subject in quick succession. The nifty feature is used for selecting a scene setting. Choices are twilight landscape, portrait, beach/snow, sports, and document. The Xenon flash in it is the brightest one between all camera phone. There is also an accelerometer and a red eye reduction option. A handy PhotoMate program can guide us for the best use of this cell phone.

The camcorder shoots clips for multimedia messages are capped about 25 seconds. Some options are a night mode, a white-balance setting, and a color effect. The flash can be used. The phone supports three UMTS/HSDPA bands (900/1900/2100) and the quadband (GSM 850/900/1800/1900). Call quality was quite good.

The Sony Ericsson K850i’s arrangements for its navigation array and touch controls are a little bit weird. The keypad buttons are rather small. There’s no self-portrait mirror.
