news9a_01Verizon’s Omnia offers a lot of advantages, such as a large touch screen with Samsung’s customizable TouchWiz user interface, a 5-megapixel camera, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. It adds support for the carrier’s EV-DO Rev, a network, which allows for faster Web browsing and downloads.

With 3.2-inch TFT screen, 262,000-color output, and 240×400-pixel resolution, it’s still bright and clear for viewing images and text. For text entry, there are several options, such as a full QWERTY keyboard (called Samsung Keyboard), Block Recognizer, Transcriber, and more. The full QWERTY is fairly cramped in portrait mode. Avoiding to many mistaken when typing messages, haptic feedback is available. It makes a slight vibration to confirm any action. Vibration intensity of haptic feedback can be adjust in the Settings menu. Etiquette mode will silence any tones when the Omnia is placed display-side down.

There is a built-in accelerometer so the screen orientation will rotate from portrait to landscape mode when you turn the phone left or right, also there will be vibrating feedback to indicate the change position. TouchWiz lets us customize the Home screen with different “widgets” . 16 widgets are available to choose from, including messages, wireless manager, contacts, calendar, games, and multimedia. Get widgets for photos, the media player, FM radio, calendar, profiles, games, several clocks, new notifications, and the notepad.

The Omnia didn’t register our touch when we tried to use the scroll bar, so we had to use the directional pad or virtual mouse. Can’t add applications to the TouchWiz interface. Omnia are limited to the preloaded widgets. There’s no built-in stylus. No Flash support. The unlocked version does not offer U.S. 3G support. The price is expensive
