PanasonicTC-P50X1 reproduces superb blacks and excellent shadow detail while costing relative pittance for a big screen HDTV. It has shiny black plastic covers at the entire frame, a slim strip of silver shaped, and plenty glossy black on its exterior. Other accesories are the Panasonic logo, an indicator light, and a big power button that nonetheless blends nicely into the frame. Speakers are placed face downward along the bottom edge of the panel. Its control and inputs are tucked into either side.

TC-P50X1 measures is 48 x 3.7 x 30.3 inches (WxDxH) and 75 lbs weight. The remote is designed with good size, color and different shape buttons. The remote has three unfamiliar keys, they are Viera Link, Viera Tools, and SD Card. The remote cannot control other devices via infrared (IR) commands, but it lets some control of compatible HDMI devices connected to the TV via Viera Link (aka HDMI-CEC).

Its display has 1,366×768 pixel array and aka 720p resolution. At the X1 models, even in different size (50 inch or 42 inch display), it missed the higher contrast. Panasonic doesn’t offer many picture adjustments, eventhough it has Contrast, four global picture modes and Custom mode.

There are three color temperature presetes, such as a CATS function which senses ambient light and adjusts the picture accordingly, a pair of On/Off settings affect video noise, and black level settings. It lacks on other advanced settings, such as gamma, color management, and others. TC-P50X1 also has four aspect ratio options with hight def sources, such as Zoom mode which can be set to horizontal or vertical position.

This Panasonis TC-P50X1 also lacks picture in picture and cannot freeze the image temporarly, but it accept SD cards with digital photos into a slot on the left side which allows it to play back the images on the big screen. Connectivity on the TC-P50X1 are three HDMI inputs, two component-video inputs, an AV input with composite and S-video, an RF input for cable or antenna, a second AV input with composite video, and an optical-digital audio output.

Plus :

Not too expensive, superb black-level performance, great connectivity.

Minus :

it suffers from less-than-accurate color and the presence of faint on-screen lines, it doesn’t offers many picture adjustments or any other advanced settings.
