The Palm Pre is designed with smooth, black, lacquered finish and rounded edges, and minimum external controls. On the front face there is only one control, the center key. It used to take back to the Deck of Card view. A power button, a silent ringer switch, and a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack are placed on the top. A volume rocker is placed at the left side. The Micro USB port is placed on the right. The camera, flash, speaker, and removable battery are placed on the back side.

It measures is 2.4 in x 0.7 in x 3.9 in (WxDxH) and 4.8 oz weight. The sliding mechanism is smooth and the screen clicks securely into place when pushed up. Its 3.1 inch touch screen display supports for 24 bit color HVGA and 320×480-pixel resolution. There are some settings to adjust the screen, such as the brightness, backlight time, and set pictures as background.

The built in accelerometer makes the screen orientation automatically change from portrait to landscape mode when viewing photos, videos, and Web pages. The accelerometer is working fast and no lag. The proximity sensor will automatically turn off the display when there’s a phone call.

The capacitive touch screen is pretty responsive. No haptic feedback, but white rings will appear around an icon or menu item to indicate touches on the screen. The display is multitouch. One tap apart or close together makes zoom in and out on pages. Double tapping will give the same result. Swiping left to right on an item will give option to delete. Two small LEDs and the center button will illuminate white to respon the commands.

The Home screen has a simple tray along the bottom, includes shortcuts to the onscreen dialer, contacts, e-mail, calendar, and the main menu. The Launcher icon consists of three panels. The first panel is used to all the core functions, such as messaging, Web, multimedia, Google Maps, task list, and so forth. The second panel is focused on applications and Sprint services. The third panel is used to various settings and options.

The Pre has a standard connection settings, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Airplane mode. It has a physical keyboard, no onscreen keyboard. The Palm Profile gives access to several key services, such as backup and restore settings, remote erase in case of a lost or stolen phone, and over-the-air updates. The Data Transfer Assistant (DTA) helps for a one time transfer of data from desktop, including Palm Desktop, iCal, or Exchange, and to our phone.

The Pre personal management features are a speakerphone, speed dial, conference calling, airplane mode, a silent ringer switch, and TTY compatibility. The Palm’s Synergy feature helps to pull a contact’s information from various sources, such as Facebook, Outlook, Gmail, and so on. It’s automatically fill all the fields in a single contact sheet.

The Palm Pre supports multiple e-mail accounts, such as POP/IMAP and Microsoft Exchange. It also supports several e-mail accounts to the Pre, including Gmail, Yahoo, and Exchange. The Pre has two instant messaging clients: Google Talk and AIM. The Palm Pre works on Sprint’s EV-DO Rev.

Bluetooth 2.1 is onboard and supports a number of profiles, such as stereo Bluetooth, hands-free kits, personal area networking, phone book access, and audio/video remote control. The Palm Pre has an integrated GPS receiver for positioning and navigation capabilities

The Palm Pre has a built in media player, which supports a number of formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, WAV, and AMR music files and MPEG-4, H263, and H264 video formats. The music player offers basic functions, such as play/pause, track forward/back, and shuffle and repeat modes. YouTube and MPEG-4 clips played back smoothly. The Pre has a 3 megapixel camera and an LED flash. The Pre is equipped with a dual-band MSM6801a processor and a TI OMAP 3430 processor.

The Palm Pre has great capabilities, good notifications system, multitouch functionality, and good multimedia integration. The Pre offers some wireless options, such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Minus :

Awful keyboard, poor battery life, and the smartphone can be sluggish at times. It lacks expansion slot, video-recording capabilities, onscreen keyboard, and Flash support. Pre doesn’t have video recording and voice dialing features.
