This Nikon D90 is the first digital SLR which supports for movie capture. It measures is 5.2 x 3 x 4.1 inches (WxDxH) and 1.4 lbs weight. The LCD is covered by a polymer. It has wireless flash controls, high speed flash sync features, shutter durability, and dust prevention system.

The control layout and navigation are placed quiet familiar. The white balance, ISO, and quality buttons are set to the left of the LCD on its cameras. The dedicated Live View button, four-way navigation switch plus OK button, a switch to lock the navigation from moving the selected AF point, and a context-sensitive information button are set to the right of the LCD.

In Live View mode, it cycles through a grid and two information displays and in standard shooting mode it displays the now-common settings summary and some changes limited number of parameters. The parameter only can be adjusted, such as Assign AE-L/AF-L button behavior, Assign Fn button, and Long exposure noise reduction.

Its movie-capture specifications are 24 frames per second 1,280×720-pixel motion JPEG and support for VR optical image-stabilization if the lens has it. D90 has monaural sound, so we can only focus manually while shooting. HD clips are capped at 5 minutes because of file-system limitations.

Some improvements in this camera are the shooting controls, an expansion of Active D-Lighting parameters (now can go higher), nine slots for custom Picture Control settings, and automatically program shift to slower shutter speeds when the camera knows a VR lens is attached

Nikon D90 takes less than 0.2 second to start up and shoot. In bright, high-contrast conditions the shot lag runs about 0.4 second, while in harder-to-focus scenes that runs about 0.9 seconds. It takes about half a second to shoot two raw or JPEG frames in a row; enabling the flash bumps that to a still-respectable 0.7 second. The burst mode and AF system are certainly fast enough to keep up with moving objects. The 11-point 3D-tracking AF mode is nice, as long as your subject moves in predictable ways.

Plus :

comfortable body with nice viewfinder, video capture capability, great photo quality.

Minus :

Nikon D90 doesn’t have sufficient video processing, so when connected via the mini-HDMI output, it relies on the TV to do the downconversion to HD resolution and Nikon’s true 24fps video doesn’t quite match that of most TV processors’ expected 23.976fps, which can result it occasional playback stutter. With the new 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens makes the zoom ring is a bit too stiff and the lens seems just slightly less sharp than the kit lenses from Canon
