The Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS is designed with a 10-megapixel compact, a 2.5-inch LCD and 3x optical zoom. This canon is available in six colors, silver, dark gray, orange, green, pink, and blue. Controls are standard Canon. A switch on the back to set the three shooting modes: Smart Auto, Program/Scene, and Movie. A Play button on the left above a four-way directional pad is centered by a Func Set button. Below that is a Disp button for changing the information shown on the LCD or shutting it off and a Menu button. A shutter release with a zoom ring and power button are on top.

The Canon’s Smart Auto mode produces reliable results by choosing one of 18 scene modes depending on what we’re shooting. The Program mode can be used to set ISO, white balance, focus, light metering, and color effects. The list of scene modes with standards are the Portrait and Landscape and specialty ones, such as Fireworks and Long Shutter. There’s a Movie mode that records 640×480-resolution video at 30 frames per second. However, the optical zoom does not function while recording.

The high-resolution images taken by the SD1200 IS Digital ELPH can be enlarged up to 13 x 19 inches. The time from power-off to first shot is a brisk 1.4 seconds. Shutter lag in good lighting 0.5 second and 0.7 second in dim conditions. The SD1200’s shot-to-shot times are 2.1 seconds without a flash and 3.2 seconds with one. The camera has no burst mode, but it has unlimited, continuous shooting capable of 1.4fps. Photo quality is very good for its class.

The PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH is equipped with Canon’s acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake, this is one of the big point causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer Technology can be used perfectly with or without a flash.

Canon’s PureColor LCD II offers spectacular color, resolution and contrast even when viewed at an angle. The screen is highly durable and easy to see in any light with a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coating. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light. The DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-Timer. iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures. 1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken. 2) The PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback. 3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.
